Camp meeting 2026-09-19
Attendees:
Nadine, Michael, Kerri (Chair), Jose, Jimmy (Secretary)
Agenda
- Review objectives of these meetings
- Discuss old business
- Discuss new business
- Any other business
Notes
Old business
- Love shack
- Ceiling work was started in July (moisture protection)
- Nadine has varathaned all wood - but concerned it won't be enough
- Michael+Nadine thinks the wood was purchased from a local mill
- AC unit
- The guy was a no-show. Nadine thinks waiting until spring might be better anyway - if there is a small freon leak, it will have emptied by spring and will have been a waste of money.
- Propane
- Nadine called a company in Fort Francis. A tank guy came but he couldn't do anything until the under-building pipework is completed.
- Proposed system:
- 500lb chubby upright tank
- Location: selected by tank guy, but not known to us
- Nadine would like to build a platform/footing for the tank
- Dock
- Flipped around early in the season - in good shape now. May need to pry it out deeper with the changing water levels
- Legarries lent their jacks, but we actually should have some in the generator shed
- Might need to replace a few boards
- Swim ladder
- Question whether we should disconnect it for winter. Proposal is not to.
- Groundskeeping
- Nadine and Karen doing their best to keep things in check
- Nadine got the weedwhacker serviced but it's too big for her to use
- Nadine would like to clear the back are again as it kept the bugs down
- Request for Michael to cut down the “bonsai tree”
- Need more kindling - there is an electric splitter somewhere.
- Camp road
- There was a road board meeting on September long weekend
- Road gets plowed three times in winter, once in spring (only up to gravel pit).
- Jane will talk to the plowing company to ask what it would cost to come to the top of the hill
- Would need voting on by the board - and would likely happen winter 2027/28 if approved
- Water
- Needed to prime the pump a few times this summer
- Al cleaned the tank out in spring
- Leak at Grandpa's camp. Water turned off, and no issues at main camp since
- Starlink
- Reduced to 300GB/month package. Keeping within the limits
- Will increase to unlimited when Kerri and Jim visit in September
New business
- Solar
- Status: charging quickly when sunny, but batteries are not holding their charge like they used to
- Jose gave a presentation about solar options - slides to be shared.
- Kerri mentioned trade off of in-Tool Room lithium meaning no need to build a new shed - so the cost of a more expensive system could be offset by not needed to build a new outbuilding
- Jose brought up propane generator as backup option if we're already going to upgrade the propane system
- Nadine thinks there is a recommended solar guy in the area that we should ask to inspect batteries for an expert opinion
- Panel modernisation - it is possible to replace all the existing panels with just one set of modern panels
- Jose asks whether Grandpa has a view on keeping shed as-is versus splitting the electical. Michael and Nadine don't think he'll have a strong opinion.
- Watercraft
- Small motor maintenance
- Anything needed?
- Boat plugs - new plugs needed
- Pontoon boat light replacement needed
- Lots of wasp bug spray needed
- Seasonal closing
- Anything Kerri and Jim can help with whilst visiting in Sept/Oct?
- Hunters will close things down
- Nadine has found some toggles/grommets on Amazon for attaching the screens
Other business
- How do we plan to get the pontoon in and out of the water long term? How do we plan to do regular maintenance on it?
- Nadine would like to rename the Love Shack to Ken's Office
- Nadine would like to build a little motor shed behind Ken's Office
- Nadine dreams of a sauna
- Nadine believes solar and propane should be the priorities
- When is the next meeting?
- Post-close. November
